Mount St. Mary's University ROTC to Commission Seven Cadets

Emmitsburg, MD (05/10/2017) — The Green Terror Battalion of the U.S. Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program will hold its commissioning ceremony for cadets of Mount St. Mary's University on Friday, May 12 at the university's Emmitsburg campus.

Lt. Gen. Christopher F. Burne, judge advocate general of the U.S. Air Force is the event's guest speaker. Burne is legal adviser to the secretary of the Air Force, as well as all officers and agencies of the Department of the Air Force. In addition, he oversees more than 2,200 judge advocates, 350 civilian attorneys, 1,400 enlisted paralegals and 500 civilians in the Total Force Judge Advocate General's Corps worldwide.

Mount St. Mary's University Interim President, Timothy Trainor, Ph.D. will also offer remarks. Trainor is a retired U.S. Army brigadier general and most recently served as dean and chief academic officer at the U.S. Military Academy before retiring after a 33-year military career. He will be in uniform for photo opportunities with the commissioned cadets.

"I know the values-based education these cadets received here at the Mount, like the one I received at West Point has prepared them well for the challenges they will face ahead," said Trainor. "They voluntarily chose to serve their country in a time of war and I would be proud to serve beside any of these fine new officers."

Seven cadets from the Mount will be commissioned. They include Divine Agbenyo, Justin Alfon, Matthew Arthur, Connor Burne, Charles Jenkins Jr., Leeanne Leary, and Israel Solis, MBA'17. The cadets will commission as second lieutenant officers and serve on active duty, in the Army Reserve or with the National Guard.

The Green Terror Battalion is comprised of students from Mount St. Mary's University, McDaniel College and Hood College. McDaniel College and Hood College will hold separate commissioning ceremonies.

Date, Time and Location

The ceremony will take place on Friday, May 12 at 11 a.m. in Knott Auditorium at the Mount's Emmitsburg campus.
