Fr. Joseph P. Parkes, S.J., Joins Mount St. Mary's University Board of Trustees
Emmitsburg, MD (03/22/2017) — Fr. Joseph P. Parkes, S.J., has joined the Mount St. Mary's University Board of Trustees, effective January 15.
Parkes helped found Cristo Rey New York High School (CRNYHS) of East Harlem in 2004 and has served as its president since its inception. Under his leadership, 100 percent of CRNYHS graduates have earned college acceptances, with 73 percent of the class of 2012 attending a selective, highly selective or a most selective school (based on US News & World Report rankings).
With more than 25 years of experience in education across a variety of school models, Parkes has taught and held administrative roles at Ateneo de Manila High School in the Philippines, St. Peter's Preparatory School in New Jersey and Fordham Preparatory School in New York City.
Parkes has served on the Saint Peter's University board, and is currently serving on the boards of Georgetown University, Fordham University and the Cristo Rey Network. Additionally, former New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg, appointed him chairman of the New York City Campaign Finance Board.
Parkes holds a master of divinity from Woodstock College, class of 1974, a master's degree in history from the University of Wisconsin, class of 1970, and a bachelor's degree in history from Fordham University, class of 1968.
