Janice Obuchowski Joins Mount St. Mary's University Board of Trustees
Emmitsburg, MD (03/22/2017) — Janice Obuchowski has joined the Mount St. Mary's University Board of Trustees, effective January 15.
Since 1992, Obuchowski has been the president of Freedom Technologies, Inc., a communications policy and consulting firm. Clients have included governmental bodies worldwide, the World Bank, many startups in the communications sector, numerous major U.S.-based and international communications companies and high technology investors.
She has also held several positions working with and in governmental agencies, including U.S. ambassador to the World Radiocommunication Conference in Geneva, Switzerland in 2003; assistant secretary for communications and information for the Department of Commerce and administrator for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration from 1989-92; executive director for international affairs for NYNEX (now Verizon) from 1987-89; and senior advisor to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from 1983-87.
Obuchowski has served on numerous boards and committees, including Orbital/ATK from 1996 to present; Inmarsat, London from 2009 to present; CSG Systems, Inc. from 1997 to present; U.S. Department of Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee from 2006 to present; Federal Communications Bar Association from 2009-12; Wellesley College Business Leadership Council from 1991 to present; Holy Child School from 2008-14; Ave Maria University from 2009 to present; National Presbyterian School from 2001-07; International Telecommunication Union Telecom Board from 1993-2000; Stratos Global from 2001-09; QUALCOMM from 1993-97; Frontline Wireless from 2007-08; NextWave Telecom from 1995-98; Progeny LLC; and Flarion.
Obuchowski holds a Juris Doctor from Georgetown Law Center, class of 1976, and a bachelor's degree from from Wellesley College, class of 1973.
