Richard P. Miller Joins Mount St. Mary's University Board of Trustees
Emmitsburg, MD (03/22/2017) — Richard P. Miller has joined the Mount St. Mary's University Board of Trustees, effective January 15.
Since 1988, Miller has served as president and CEO of Virtua, a non-profit healthcare system offering a full continuum of primary, preventative, wellness, acute and long-term care. He has led Virtua in innovative directions by creating a values-based culture defined by the "Star Initiative," adopting Six-Sigma, and transforming a group of community-based hospitals into technologically advanced regional medical centers.
Miller serves on the operating committee of the board of Select Greater Philadelphia and the board of the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia. He has also been chairman of the board of trustees of the New Jersey Hospital Association, as well as served on the Governor's Committee on Benchmarking for Quality and Efficiency, and on the NJ Healthcare Access Study Commission. He served on boards for the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes of Southern New Jersey, and is a past chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey Board.
His many accolades and awards include Human Resources CEO of the Year by the HR Department of the Year Awards; the CEO IT Achievement Award from Modern Healthcare magazine; Healthcare CEO of the Year by the Philadelphia Business Journal; and the New Jersey Business Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award from New Jersey Junior Achievement.
Additionally, Miller holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Illinois University, class of 1985, and a bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's College, class of 1974. Mount St. Mary's became a university in 2004.
